Thales Defense & Security, Inc. seeks an experienced Manager of Payroll in Clarksburg, Maryland.  This position reports directly to the Controller.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Payroll Processing: Manage the end-to-end processing of payroll for a diverse employee population, including salary calculation, tax withholdings, and deductions in a multiple business/shared services environment. Actively maintain professional relationships with external payroll/tax service provider and internal stakeholders across HR and Finance.
  • Compliance & Tax: Ensure strict compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws and tax regulations, including filing reports.
  • Reporting & Reconciliation: Prepare payroll reports for management. Maintain and optimize timekeeping system and GL payroll reconciliations.
  • Employee Support: Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies. 
  • ERP/Payroll/Timekeeping Systems Management: Ensure effective use of SAP/SuccessFactors/EC Payroll/Workforce Tool and effectively work with IT/Consultants to ensure optimization.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's operating policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities includes operating budgets, workforce planning, interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; performance appraisals, rewarding and providing for employee discipline when required; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Must be able to create a positive environment and work with staff to develop and achieve strategic plan objectives. High performance feedback and active mentoring and development of staff is critical element of the supervisory responsibilities. Must be able to uphold, support and educate employees on the Thales Code of Ethics. By example sets the standards that embody the TDSI Core Value & Thales Leadership Model.  Maintain a high ethical standard of practice, including compliance with all company procedures.

 

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required. Ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret Level Security Clearance upon hire.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 16 credits in accounting.  Preferred - Certified Payroll Professional.
  • 10+ years as a payroll professional, with 5 years supervisory experience and 2 years working with a large corporation.
  • Experience in government contracting environment is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, confidentiality, and leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent in English. 
  • Deep understanding of multi-state tax regulations, wage laws, benefits and 401(K) in order to ensure correct and accurate payroll administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences in pursuit of common objectives.
  • Proficiency with HRIS, Payroll & Timekeeping Software – SAP/SuccessFactors/EC Payroll.
  • Ability to operate at a high ethical standard of practice including compliance with all company procedures.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills with the ability to achieve results through others in an organization that supports pull-through technologies from other countries within the Thales organization.  
  • Proficiency in Excel & Other Microsoft Office tools.

 

The annualized pay range for this role is $130,000 - $175,000 USD along with a target incentive compensation plan (ICP) of 10%. The pay range provided is a good faith estimate representative of the experience level for the role described above.  TDSI considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
